12 Best Claude Skills for Marketers in 2026 (Plus How to Build One for Your Brand's Designs)

Published about 4 hours ago by · 14 min read

You probably run the same five prompts every week. Rewrite this in our voice. Turn this doc into a deck. Make a post for the launch, and please use the right blue this time. Each one starts from zero, so you paste the brand guide again and get a slightly different result again. The best Claude Skills fix exactly that: you write the instructions once, Claude loads them when they are relevant, and the output comes back the way your team wants it. This guide ranks 12 skills that produce real marketing work, then walks you through building one that turns your brand kit into finished designs.

What Claude Skills are (and why marketers should care)

Anthropic's own definition: "Skills are folders of instructions, scripts, and resources that Claude loads dynamically to improve performance on specialized tasks." A skill is a folder with a SKILL.md file inside: a short header (name and description) and a body of instructions. Claude reads the header of every installed skill at the start of a chat, and only opens the full file when your request matches what the description says the skill is for.

That last part is the trick. You do not have to remember to invoke anything. Ask for a leadership update and the internal-comms skill wakes up. Custom instructions and Projects apply to everything all the time; skills apply only when the task calls for them, so you can install twenty without cluttering every conversation.

Anthropic's support docs also make a point that matters for the tutorial later: connectors give Claude access to tools, while skills teach Claude how to use those tools well. Pair the two and a skill can drive the apps you already work in instead of only producing text.

Anthropic now lists skills, connectors and plugins in one directory under Customize in claude.ai. For the connector side in more depth, our Claude connectors guide covers setup and security.

How we picked these

Most "best Claude Skills" lists are written for developers, which is fine if you ship code and useless if you ship campaigns. We used three filters instead. A marketer has to be able to install it without a terminal, by uploading a ZIP under Customize > Skills. The output has to be something a marketing team actually publishes or presents. And it has to work in claude.ai and Cowork, not only in Claude Code.

Every skill below exists in Anthropic's official repository or the ComposioHQ awesome-claude-skills collection. Two of the twelve you build yourself, and we give you the files.

The 12 best Claude Skills for marketers in 2026

1. skill-creator

Start here, because this is the skill that builds the others. Tell Claude what workflow you want to package and skill-creator interviews you, drafts the SKILL.md, tests it and revises the description until it triggers correctly. It lives in Anthropic's official anthropics/skills repository on GitHub. A marketer reaches for it the first time they catch themselves pasting the same instructions into a third chat. Example prompt: "Use skill-creator to build a skill that turns a product launch brief into a LinkedIn post, a tweet thread and a customer email, in our voice, with our CTA rules."

2. docx, pptx, xlsx and pdf

These four live in Anthropic's official skills repository and cover the everyday office formats. docx writes and edits Word documents, pptx builds decks, xlsx creates spreadsheets with working formulas, and pdf reads, merges, fills and extracts.

You use them whenever the deliverable is a file, not a chat message: the performance report as a formatted document, the campaign plan as a deck, the media plan as a spreadsheet. Example prompt: "Turn these campaign results into a 10-slide deck with one chart per channel and a summary slide at the end."

3. internal-comms

Anthropic's internal-comms skill drafts status reports, leadership updates, newsletters and FAQs in the formats a company likes to use. Its value is consistency: the weekly marketing update looks the same every week, so readers know where to find the numbers. Install it from the official repository, or ask skill-creator to build a copy with your own templates. Example prompt: "Write this week's marketing status update from these notes. Three wins, two risks, next week's priorities, in our standard format."

4. competitive-ads-extractor

From the ComposioHQ community collection, this one pulls and analyzes competitors' ads from ad libraries and summarizes the hooks, offers and formats they are running. Paid social teams use it before a creative sprint to see what the market is saturated with, and what nobody is saying yet. Install by downloading the folder, zipping it and uploading. Example prompt: "Pull the last 30 days of ads from these three competitors and give me a table of their hooks, offers and calls to action, plus three angles none of them are using."

5. lead-research-assistant

Also from the community collection. It looks at your product, identifies who would buy it, and qualifies candidate leads with reasoning you can hand to sales. For a small team that also owns the top of the funnel, it replaces an afternoon of tab-hopping. Example prompt: "Based on our product page, find 15 mid-sized DTC brands that would fit, and rank them with a one-line reason each." Turn web search on so Claude can check what it claims.

6. brand-guidelines

One warning first: Anthropic's official brand-guidelines skill applies Anthropic's own colors and fonts to whatever Claude produces. Installed as-is, it makes your documents look like an Anthropic memo.

It is on this list because it is the perfect template to fork. Copy the folder, rename it (something like acme-brand-guidelines), swap in your hex codes and typefaces, and upload. Now every deck and document Claude builds starts on-brand. Example prompt after forking: "Make the Q4 planning doc, apply our brand guidelines."

7. canvas-design

canvas-design produces original static visuals, posters and art as PNG or PDF. It is a good fit for mood boards and concept explorations where you want a strong visual direction fast. What it does not do is produce an editable file with layers, and it does not know your brand kit unless you tell it every time. Example prompt: "Create a poster concept for our spring campaign in a warm, editorial style, no text."

8. theme-factory

theme-factory applies a coherent visual theme (colors and fonts) to an artifact. Pair it with pptx or docx and you get a deck or report that looks intentional before you touch a slide master. Use it for one-off decks with no designer available: a partner pitch, a webinar deck, a sales one-pager. Example prompt: "Apply a clean, high-contrast theme to this deck and give me two alternative palettes to compare."

9. doc-coauthoring

This one changes how you write with Claude rather than what it outputs. doc-coauthoring is built for writing a long document together with Claude, with context gathered from you rather than guessed. Use it for the documents that usually get written badly at the last minute: the positioning doc, the messaging framework, the annual content strategy. Example prompt: "Let's co-author our 2027 content strategy. Start by asking me what you need to know."

10. frontend-design

frontend-design is meant for developers, but marketers own landing pages, and this skill is the reason a Claude-built landing page looks designed rather than templated. It pushes for distinctive typography and layout choices that do not read as defaults. Example prompt: "Build a single-page landing page for our webinar. Headline, three benefits, speaker cards, one form. Use the frontend-design skill for the visual direction."

11. A custom brand-voice skill

No repository has your voice, so this is the first skill most teams should write by hand. Ten lines is enough:

---
name: acme-brand-voice
description: Rewrites and drafts marketing copy in Acme's brand voice. Use when the user asks for social posts, emails, ads, landing page copy or any customer-facing text.
---
# Acme brand voice
- Speak to one reader as "you". Short sentences. No jargon.
- Lead with the customer's problem, never with the product name.
- One call to action per piece, phrased as a verb.
- Never use: "revolutionary", "best-in-class", "synergy".
- Product names: Acme Studio (never "the studio"), Acme Pro.

Save it as acme-brand-voice/SKILL.md, zip the folder, upload. Example prompt afterward: "Draft three Instagram captions for the launch." There is no need to explain your voice in the prompt anymore.

12. brand-design-kit, a skill that runs the Krumzi MCP

Everything above produces words, decks or one-off images. This last one produces finished, editable marketing designs from your actual brand kit, by pairing a skill with a connector. The skill tells Claude the process: fetch the brand kit, confirm the format, generate, revise, export. The connector, in this case the Krumzi MCP server, does the designing. The full build is in the tutorial below.

Three ways to create a Claude Skill

Ask Claude to build it

The fastest route. Open a chat in claude.ai or Cowork and describe the workflow you want. skill-creator asks follow-up questions, writes the file, and helps you test whether it triggers on the right requests. Anthropic's academy has a short walkthrough on creating a skill through conversation.

Record a workflow in Cowork

On Cowork for Mac (Pro, Max and Team plans), you can do a task once while Claude watches, then have it turn what you did into a skill. This suits processes that are hard to describe but easy to demonstrate. Anthropic recommends following the open agentskills.io format so the result also works in Claude Code and other tools.

Write SKILL.md by hand

The most control. Create a folder, write the frontmatter and the instructions, add reference files if needed, zip and upload. The Agent Skills specification fits on one page: the name is required, at most 64 characters, lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens only, and it must match the folder name. The description is required and at most 1,024 characters. Keep SKILL.md under 500 lines and push anything longer into a references/ folder.

Tutorial: build a brand-design skill that uses Krumzi's MCP

Budget 20 minutes.

Step 1: Connect the Krumzi MCP

Add https://www.krumzi.com/api/mcp as a custom connector in Claude (a paid Claude plan is needed for custom connectors), then approve the OAuth prompt. Once connected, Claude gets eight Krumzi tools: generate_design, generate_ai_image, edit_design, export_design, get_brand_kit, list_brands, list_designs and get_design. Over MCP it creates single images, carousels and multi-page documents, and exports PNG, JPG or PDF. Video is not available through the connector.

The skill depends on a saved brand kit, so if you do not have one yet, our guide to creating a brand kit with AI takes about ten minutes.

Step 2: Write SKILL.md

Create a folder named brand-design-kit and save this inside it as SKILL.md:

---
name: brand-design-kit
description: Creates on-brand, editable marketing designs (social posts, ads, flyers, banners) using the Krumzi MCP tools and the user's saved brand kit. Use when the user asks for a graphic, social post, ad creative, flyer, banner, or any branded visual.
metadata:
  author: your-company
  version: "1.0"
---
# Brand design kit

1. Call Krumzi:list_brands, then Krumzi:get_brand_kit for the brand the user names (default: the first brand). Never invent colors, fonts, or logos.
2. Confirm format and size (Instagram post 1080x1080, story 1080x1920, A4 flyer) if not stated.
3. Call Krumzi:generate_design with the brand kit colors, fonts, logo and the user's copy. If a custom image is needed, call Krumzi:generate_ai_image first.
4. Show the result. For changes, use Krumzi:edit_design on the same design rather than regenerating.
5. When approved, call Krumzi:export_design (PNG for social, PDF for print) and return the link.

## Guidelines
- Headline under 8 words; one CTA; leave the logo unaltered.
- See references/brand-voice.md for tone rules.

Three details are doing real work here. The description says what the skill does and when to use it, in third person, which is what makes it trigger. The tool names are fully qualified as Krumzi:tool_name, which prevents "tool not found" errors when several connectors are enabled. And step 4 tells Claude to edit rather than regenerate, so revisions keep the same design. Add a references/brand-voice.md file with your tone rules, or delete that last line if you do not have one yet.

Step 3: Zip and upload

Compress the brand-design-kit folder into a ZIP. In claude.ai, go to Customize > Skills, click the "+" button, then "+ Create skill", then "Upload a skill", and select the file. The one error people hit is a folder name that does not match the name field, so if the upload fails, check that first.

Step 4: Test with three prompts

Open a new chat with the Krumzi connector enabled.

"Make an Instagram post announcing 20% off everything this weekend." Claude should call list_brands and get_brand_kit before it designs anything, and the result should come back in your colors and fonts.

"Make the headline bigger and swap the photo for something warmer." Claude should call edit_design on the same design, not start over. If it regenerates, tighten the wording of step 4.

"Export that as a PNG." One call to export_design, one link back. Our roundup of the best MCP servers for marketers lists the other connectors worth pairing with skills.

How to make skills trigger reliably

The most common complaint about Claude Skills is "I installed it and nothing happened." Almost every time, the description is the problem. Claude decides whether to open a skill from the description alone, so it has to say both what the skill does and when it applies. "Helps with designs" fails. "Creates on-brand social posts, ads and flyers from the user's brand kit; use when the user asks for any branded visual" works.

Write it in third person, as Anthropic's best-practices guide for skills recommends. Keep SKILL.md under 500 lines, use fully qualified ServerName:tool_name names for MCP tools, and test the trigger with a request that never mentions the skill's name. If "make a flyer for the open house" does not wake up your design skill, rewrite the description first.

Security and plan notes

Read every skill before installing it. A skill can include scripts that run inside Claude's code execution sandbox, so look at what is in the folder and prefer the official repository or a collection you trust.

On plans: skills are available on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise, as long as code execution is enabled, and in Claude Code and the API. The paid requirement comes from the connector side, since a custom MCP connector needs a paid Claude plan. If you work in Claude Code, our guide to Claude Code images shows how the same design connector works from the terminal.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Claude Skills, custom instructions and Projects?

Custom instructions and a Project's system prompt apply to every message. A skill loads only when your request matches its description, so you can have dozens installed without them competing. Skills can also bundle scripts and reference files, which instructions cannot.

Are Claude Skills free, and which plans support them?

Skills are available on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans, provided code execution is enabled, and in Claude Code and the API. The part that costs money is adding a custom connector, which needs a paid plan.

Can I create a Claude Skill without coding?

Yes. Ask Claude to build one through conversation using skill-creator, or record a workflow in Cowork for Mac. Writing SKILL.md by hand is just Markdown with a short YAML header, so even that route needs no programming.

Can a skill use MCP connectors like Notion?

Yes, and that is where skills get powerful, because the skill can tell Claude how and in what order to use the connector's tools. Reference them with fully qualified names such as Krumzi:generate_design, and make sure the connector is enabled in the chat where you use the skill.

Do skills work in Cowork, Claude Code and the desktop app?

Skills you enable on claude.ai also load in Cowork and in cloud sessions. Claude Code reads skills from ~/.claude/skills/ or a project's .claude/skills/ folder and you call them with /skill-name. Follow the agentskills.io format and the same folder works everywhere.
