Stencil's changelog carried no meaningful feature news for years after the acquisition. No AI ever arrived: no generation, no design assistance, nothing beyond templates and stock. Stagnation ended the way it usually does.
What it did well
Speed was the whole product: template, text, download, under a minute, plus a genuinely handy browser extension and 5 million stock photos at a low price. Users liked it. Its 4.4 rating on G2 was earned.
Where it capped out
Reviewers who outgrew it all hit the same walls: no video, no carousels, no animation, manual save with no version history, PNG and JPG only, no mobile app. Fine for quote images; a ceiling for a content calendar.
